SUMMARY: We have heard from our readers that some insurance companies have refused to reimburse patients for procedures mentioned in our article Cosmetic Surgery with Lasers (vol. 39, page 10, January 31, 1997) because we called them "cosmetic." These procedures, particularly treatment of congenital vascular malformations in children, are often medically necessary.
