Two new fluoroquinolone solutions, moxifloxacin 0.5% (Vigamox - Alcon) and gatifloxacin 0.3% (Zymar - Allergan) are now available in the US for ophthalmic use in treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis.

The FDA has approved a 6% otic suspension formulation of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ciprofloxacin (Otiprio – Otonomy) for single-dose treatment of acute otitis externa (swimmer's ear) caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Staphylococcus aureus in patients ≥6 months old. The FDA has approved another fixed combination of the antibiotic clindamycin phosphate and the oxidizing agent benzoyl peroxide (Onexton Gel 1.2%/3.75% – Valeant) for topical treatment of acne in patients ≥12 years old. Topical products containing the same drugs have been available for many years. Onexton Gel contains a new strength of benzoyl peroxide.
