Levocarnitine (Carnitor - Sigma-Tau) has been FDA approved for oral and parenteral treatment of primary carnitine deficiency since 1986. Products containing levocarnitine and its synthetic derivative acetyl-L-carnitine are available as dietary supplements in the US.
