The FDA has approved Combogesic IV (Hikma), an IV solution containing acetaminophen and ibuprofen, to treat mild to moderate pain (alone) or moderate to severe pain (in combination with an opioid) in adults when IV analgesia is considered clinically necessary. Single-drug IV solutions containing ibuprofen (Caldolor) and acetaminophen have been available in the US for years.

MoviPrep (Salix) is a new polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based bowel cleansing preparation approved for use in adults prior to colonoscopy. It contains ascorbic acid, which acts as an additional cathartic and flavoring agent, and requires a lower volume of fluid (3 L compared to the traditional 4 L) than most other PEG products. HalfLytely is an FDA-approved 2-L PEG product, but it must be taken with bisacodyl.

The FDA has approved a fixed-dose combination of the long-acting anticholinergic glycopyrrolate and the long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) formoterol (Bevespi Aerosphere – AstraZeneca) for long-term maintenance treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The FDA has approved Airsupra (AstraZeneca), a metered-dose inhaler containing the short-acting beta₂-agonist (SABA) albuterol and the inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) budesonide, for use as needed for treatment or prevention of bronchoconstriction and to reduce the risk of exacerbations in patients ≥18 years old with asthma. Airsupra is the first combination of a SABA and an ICS to become available in the US. It is not approved for use as maintenance therapy.

Bipolar disorder is characterized by episodes of mania, hypomania, and depression. Recurrences of manic or (more frequently) depressive symptoms are common. About 15-20% of patients with bipolar disorder die by suicide.

An oral contraceptive (Yasmin - Berlex) containing 3 mg of drospirenone and 30 mcg of ethinyl estradiol is being promoted as having a low incidence of adverse effects.

The FDA has approved Trelegy Ellipta (GSK), a fixed-dose combination of the inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) fluticasone furoate, the long-acting antimuscarinic agent (LAMA) umeclidinium, and the long-acting beta₂-agonist (LABA) vilanterol. It is available as a dry powder inhaler for once-daily maintenance treatment of COPD and to reduce COPD exacerbations in patients with a history of exacerbations. Trelegy Ellipta is the first three-drug inhaler for treatment of COPD to become available in the US.

The FDA has approved Symbravo (Axsome), an oral fixed-dose combination of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) meloxicam and the 5-HT_1B/1D receptor agonist (triptan) rizatriptan (Maxalt, and generics), for acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults. It is the second combination of an NSAID and a triptan to be approved for migraine treatment. An oral fixed-dose combination of sumatriptan and naproxen (Treximet, and generics) is approved for use in patients ≥12 years old.

Many different drugs are used for treatment of osteoarthritis pain, but none of them prevent progression of the disease.
