Primary hypothyroidism is usually the result of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, thyroidectomy for hyperthyroidism, goiter or cancer, or radioactive iodine therapy for hyperthyroidism.

Bexagliflozin (Brenzavvy – TheracosBio), a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, has been approved by the FDA to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is the fifth SGLT2 inhibitor to be approved in the US for this indication (see Table 4).

Doxacurium (Nuromax - Burroughs Wellcome), a new, long-acting, nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent, is now available in the USA for use as a skeletal muscle relaxant during general anesthesia and for endotracheal intubation. Every pharmaceutical drug is a dose-dependent poison. This article describes the clinical presentation and treatment of some dangerous overdoses commonly reported in adults.

Midodrine hydrochloride (ProAmatine - Roberts), an alpha1-selective adrenergic agonist, is now available for treatment of severe symptomatic orthostatic hypotension. Other treatments for this condition include other sympathomimetics, constrictive garments, erythropoietin (Epogen; Procrit) and fludrocortisone with salt (D Robertson and TL Davis, Neurology, 45 suppl 5: S26, 1995).

The FDA has approved viloxazine extended-release capsules (Qelbree – Supernus) for treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children 6-17 years old. Viloxazine is the second selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor to be approved in the US for treatment of ADHD; atomoxetine (Strattera, and generics) was approved in 2002.

Since 2007, antimicrobial prophylaxis for dental procedures has been recommended to prevent viridans group streptococcal infective endocarditis only for patients at highest risk of an adverse outcome. Limiting use to such patients does not appear to have led to an increased incidence of infective endocarditis or increased mortality due to infective endocarditis.
