The FDA has approved oral and injectable formulations of the HIV-1 capsid inhibitor lenacapavir (Yeztugo – Gilead) for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV-1 in at-risk adolescents and adults. Sebetralstat (Ekterly – Kalvista), an oral plasma kallikrein inhibitor, has been approved by the FDA for treatment of acute hereditary angioedema (HAE) attacks in patients ≥12 years old. It is the first oral drug to be approved in the US for this indication. Mild to moderate plaque psoriasis can be treated with topical drugs and phototherapy. Patients with moderate to severe disease generally require systemic therapy. Guidelines for the treatment of psoriasis with topical therapy, phototherapy, and systemic drugs have recently been published.

Pravastatin (Pravachol - Bristol-Myers Squibb) and simvastatin (Zocor - Merck), two new inhibitors of cholesterol synthesis similar to lovastatin (Mevacor - Merck), have been marketed in Canada and several European countries and may soon be available in the USA for treatment of high plasma cholesterol concentrations.
