The FDA has approved IV amisulpride (Barhemsys – Acacia), a selective dopamine-2 and -3 (D2/D3) receptor antagonist, for prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in adults. It is the first antiemetic to be approved for rescue treatment of PONV in patients who have symptoms despite receiving antiemetic prophylaxis. Oral formulations of amisulpride are available in Europe for treatment of schizophrenia and acute psychotic episodes.

Cosibelimab (Unloxcyt – Checkpoint Therapeutics), a programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) blocking antibody, has been approved by the FDA for treatment of locally advanced or metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in adults who are not candidates for curative surgery or radiation. It is the first PD-L1 inhibitor to be approved in the US for this indication. The PD-1 inhibitors pembrolizumab (Keytruda) and cemiplimab (Libtayo) are also approved for treatment of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

The FDA has approved Anjeso (Baudax Bio), an IV formulation of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) meloxicam, for once-daily treatment of moderate to severe pain in adults. Oral meloxicam (Mobic, and others), which is only indicated for treatment of chronic pain associated with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, has been available for 20 years. IV formulations of ketorolac, ibuprofen (Caldolor), and acetaminophen (Ofirmev) are also available for treatment of pain.

Balfaxar (Octapharma), a human plasma-derived four-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC), has been approved by the FDA for rapid reversal of warfarin anticoagulation in adults who require an urgent surgical/invasive procedure. It is the second four-factor PCC to become available in the US; Kcentra, which has been available since 2013, is approved for the same indication and for urgent reversal of warfarin anticoagulation in adults with acute major bleeding. Balfaxar is marketed in Canada and Europe as Octaplex.
