It has reduced the risk of invasive pneumococcal disease (meningitis or bacteremic pneumonia), but not mortality, in immunocompetent older adults.2 PPSV23 has not been shown to reduce the risk of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in immunocompromised patients.
