The FDA has granted accelerated approval to copanlisib (Aliqopa – Bayer), an intravenously administered phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor, for treatment of adults with relapsed follicular lymphoma who have received at least two prior systemic therapies. Follicular lymphoma is a common subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Copanlisib is the second PI3K inhibitor to be approved for this indication; idelalisib (Zydelig), which is administered orally twice daily, was the first.

The FDA has approved nirsevimab-alip (Beyfortus – AstraZeneca/Sanofi), a long-acting monoclonal antibody, for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) lower respiratory tract disease in neonates and infants born during or entering their first RSV season, and in children ≤24 months old who are at increased risk for severe RSV disease through their second RSV season. Nirsevimab is the first drug to be approved for protection of all infants during their first RSV season.

Panitumumab (Vectibix - Amgen), a fully human IgG₂ monoclonal antibody that inhibits the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), has been approved by the FDA for treatment of patients with EGFR-expressing metastatic colorectal cancer that has progressed despite standard chemotherapy. It is the second monoclonal antibody EGFR inhibitor to be approved for metastatic colorectal cancer; cetuximab (Erbitux), a human-murine chimeric IgG₁ monoclonal antibody, was approved in 2004.

Olodaterol (Striverdi Respimat – Boehringer Ingelheim), a new inhaled long-acting beta2-agonist, has been approved by the FDA for once-daily maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). High doses of beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc oxide are now being promoted to the general public to "preserve eye health" (Ocuvite PreserVision), "promote retinal and visual health" (VisiVite) and "preserve healthy vision" (ICaps). Internet advertisements for these products all refer to a clinical trial, the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), which was conducted in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The FDA has approved an inhaled fixed-dose combination of the long-acting anticholinergic umeclidinium (ue mek" li din' ee um) and the long-acting beta₂-adrenergic agonist (LABA) vilanterol (Anoro Ellipta – GSK/Theravance) for once-daily maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Anoro Ellipta is the first product available in the US that combines two long-acting bronchodilators in a single delivery device.

The FDA has approved another solution of the aminoglycoside antibiotic tobramycin (Bethkis – Chiesi/Cornerstone) for oral inhalation via a nebulizer for management of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Tezepelumab-ekko (Tezspire – AstraZeneca/Amgen), a subcutaneously administered thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) blocker, has been approved by the FDA for add-on maintenance treatment of severe asthma in patients ≥12 years old. It is the first TSLP blocker to become available in the US and the first biologic drug to be approved for treatment of severe asthma without phenotypic or biomarker limitations.

Cetuximab (Erbitux - ImClone Systems/Bristol-Myers Squibb), an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor, and bevacizumab (Avastin - Genentech), the first vascular endothelial growth factor angiogenesis inhibitor, have recently been approved by the FDA for treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.
