The FDA has added a "black box" warning about the risks of QT prolongation and the potentially fatal torsades de pointes (TdP) ventricular tachycardia to the labeling of droperidol (Inapsine - Akorn), an antiemetic used mostly in anesthesia. The FDA has approved IV amisulpride (Barhemsys –
Acacia), a selective dopamine-2 and -3 (D2/D3) receptor
antagonist, for prevention and treatment of postoperative
nausea and vomiting (PONV) in adults. It is the first
antiemetic to be approved for rescue treatment of
PONV in patients who have symptoms despite receiving
antiemetic prophylaxis. Oral formulations of amisulpride
are available in Europe for treatment of schizophrenia
and acute psychotic episodes.

schizophrenia or bipolar I or II disorder in adults. It is
the first alpha-2 agonist and the only sublingual film
to be approved for this indication. Dexmedetomidine
has been available for many years in an injectable
formulation (Precedex) for sedation in the intensive
care unit and to facilitate procedures such as
mechanical ventilation.
