a 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, for
prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD)
and pneumococcal pneumonia in adults. Four other
pneumococcal vaccines are currently available in the
US: Prevnar 20 (PCV20), Vaxneuvance (PCV15), and
Prevnar 13 (PCV13) are conjugate vaccines licensed
for use in persons ≥6 weeks old, and Pneumovax 23
(PPSV23) is a pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine
licensed for use in persons ≥2 years old (see Table 1).

has reduced the overall incidence of some of
these vaccine-preventable diseases, but many
adults remain susceptible. Recommendations for
vaccination against COVID-19, seasonal influenza,
and monkeypox and vaccination of travelers have

The main goals of treatment of chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD) are to relieve symptoms,
reduce the frequency and severity of exacerbations,
prevent disease progression, and reduce mortality.
GOLD (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung
Disease) guidelines for treatment of COPD were
updated recently. Treatment of acute exacerbations
is not discussed here. Drugs available for treatment
of COPD are listed in Tables 1 and 3.
