Oral antipsychotic drugs used for treatment of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, and other manifestations of psychosis or mania are listed in Table 1. Parenteral antipsychotic drugs used for treatment of these disorders are listed in Table 2.

The primary symptoms of menopause are genitourinary and vasomotor. The genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) includes symptoms such as burning, irritation, dryness, dyspareunia, dysuria, and recurrent urinary tract infection. Vasomotor symptoms (VMS; hot flashes, night sweats) often disrupt sleep.

The FDA has approved the marketing of fesoterodine (Toviaz - Pfizer), a muscarinic receptor antagonist, for treatment of overactive bladder. It is the sixth antimuscarinic drug approved for this indication.

The FDA has approved suvorexant (Belsomra – Merck), the first orexin receptor antagonist to become available in the US, for treatment of sleep-onset and/or sleep-maintenance insomnia.

The FDA has approved mavacamten (Camzyos – MyoKardia/BMS), a modulator of cardiac myosin, to improve functional capacity and symptoms in adults with New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II or III obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) who have a baseline left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥55%. Mavacamten is the first drug in its class to become available in the US.

Elinzanetant (Lynkuet – Bayer), a first-in-class neurokinin 1 (NK1) and neurokinin 3 (NK3) receptor antagonist, has been approved by the FDA for treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms (VMS) due to menopause. Fezolinetant (Veozah), an NK3 receptor antagonist, was approved for the same indication in 2023.

The FDA has approved two antibiotics, gepotidacin (Blujepa — GSK) and zoliflodacin (Nuzolvence — Entasis), for oral treatment of uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhea in patients ≥12 years old. Gepotidacin is approved for use in persons weighing ≥45 kg who have limited or no alternative treatment options; it was approved in 2025 for treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infection in females. Zoliflodacin is approved for use in persons weighing ≥35 kg. Neither drug is indicated for treatment of rectal or pharyngeal gonorrhea.

Every pharmaceutical drug is a dose-dependent poison. This article describes the clinical presentation and treatment of some dangerous overdoses commonly reported in adults.

Acute cough (<3 weeks in duration) generally does not require pharmacologic treatment, especially in children. Suppression of productive cough may be harmful. Management of patients with cough should include elimination of any precipitating factor (e.g., cigarette smoking) and treatment of any underlying cause such as upper airway cough syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, asthma, or other pulmonary disease.

The FDA has approved pitolisant (Wakix – Harmony), a histamine-3 (H₃)-receptor antagonist/inverse agonist, for treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) or cataplexy in adults with narcolepsy. It is the first H₃-receptor antagonist/inverse agonist to become available in the US and the first non-controlled substance to receive FDA approval for these indications. Pitolisant has been available in Europe since 2016.
