(Durysta – Allergan) for reduction of intraocular

or ocular hypertension. Bimatoprost is also

The FDA has approved an intranasal formulation of
the opioid antagonist nalmefene (Opvee – Indivior) for
emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid
overdose in persons ≥12 years old. Nalmefene, which
is available by prescription, is the second opioid
antagonist to become available as a nasal spray
for this indication; the first was naloxone, which is
now available for sale over the counter (Narcan, and
generic). Other nasal spray formulations of naloxone
and injectable formulations of nalmefene and
naloxone are available by prescription (see Table 2).

available over the counter (OTC) for temporary relief
of nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy
nose due to allergic rhinitis in adults and children
≥6 years old. It is the first intranasal antihistamine
to be approved by the FDA for OTC use. Other drugs
that are available OTC for treatment of allergic rhinitis
symptoms include oral antihistamines, intranasal
corticosteroids, and mast cell stabilizers.

The drug has been used in Europe since 1987. An H1-antihistamine with mast-cell stabilizing activity, olopatadine is already marketed for treatment of allergic conjunctivitis in a 0.1% solution as Patanol and in a 0.2% solution as Pataday. Azelastine (Astelin), another H1-antihistamine with mast-cell stabilizing activity, has been available for intranasal treatment of allergic rhinitis since 1997.
