On June 25, 2021, the FDA added a warning to the Fact Sheets for the mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by Pfizer/BioNTech (Comirnaty) and Moderna (Spikevax) about an increased risk of myocarditis and pericarditis following administration of the vaccines.

The FDA has approved two new drugs for treatment of adults with acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections caused by susceptible gram-positive bacteria. Sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn) have become the standard treatment for erectile dysfunction. Head-to-head comparisons of these agents are still lacking, but some differences between them and new recommendations for their dosing (see Table 2) are worth noting.

The FDA has approved Crexont (Amneal), an extended-release capsule formulation of carbidopa/levodopa, for treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD), postencephalitic parkinsonism, and parkinsonism associated with carbon monoxide or manganese intoxication. Crexont contains a combination of immediate-release carbidopa/levodopa granules and extended-release levodopa pellets. The FDA has approved an intravenous (IV) formulation of acetaminophen (Ofirmev – Cadence) for use in patients ≥2 years old for management of pain either as monotherapy (mild to moderate pain) or with an opioid (moderate to severe pain) and for reduction of fever.

Many drugs can cause psychiatric symptoms, but a causal connection is often difficult to establish. Psychiatric symptoms that emerge during drug treatment could also be due to the underlying illness, previously unrecognized psychopathology, or psychosocial factors. The withdrawal of some drugs can cause symptoms such as anxiety, psychosis, delirium, agitation or depression.
