Posaconazole (Noxafil - Schering-Plough), an oral azole antifungal with a chemical structure similar to that of itraconazole (Sporanox), has been approved by the FDA to prevent Candida and Aspergillus infections in severely immunocompromised patients and for treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis.
