American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines on management of AF were updated recently.

The FDA has amended its Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Paxlovid (Pfizer), the investigational oral antiviral drug nirmatrelvir copackaged with oral ritonavir, to allow for it to be prescribed by licensed pharmacists in certain situations. Paxlovid is authorized for oral treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in high-risk outpatients ≥12 years old who weigh at least 40 kg. NIH guidelines list it as the treatment of choice for COVID-19 in high-risk adult outpatients.

About 2.5 million persons in the US had hepatitis C between 2017 and 2020. Guidelines from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) on management of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection were updated in 2023.

The centuries-old anti-inflammatory drug colchicine (Colcrys, and others) is FDA-approved for prophylaxis and treatment of gout flares and for treatment of familial Mediterranean fever.
